Mezey

Katalin Mezey (1943), born in Budapest, is a poet, author, and playwright. Since 1963, she has published almost two dozen volumes of poetry and prose, and received several awards including the Attila József Prize and the Kossuth Prize. She initiated the creation of the Writers' Union and was secretary until 2008, and is the founder and director of the Writers' Foundation and the Széphalom Book Workshop publishing house. Member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts (MMA) since 2004, she was elected director of the MMA’s Literary Section in 2012.
